Today I had the wonderful privilege of escorting my sweet Daddy to visit some relatives. My husband drove us to see his brother, my uncle Phil, who is in an elder care facility about 2 hours from us. We got to spend some time visiting with he and his sweet wife and catch up a bit. He LOVES Dr. Pepper, and it was my pleasure to hand him several cupfuls during our visit. He is just as witty as ever and still has the most beautiful blue eyes you have ever seen!
After leaving my uncle’s home, we traveled about 40 miles to visit with some more family on my late mother’s side. On the way, we saw many sights that I remember from childhood visits to my grandparents’ home. We went through the town where my parents attended school. We saw the farm my dad owns. We saw the old swimming pool in the town. And kudzu! LOTS of kudzu!!
The First Baptist Church of Carbon Hill, where my grandparents were members.
Mom and Dad in front of the high school… sweethearts.
The Carbon Hill Swimming Pool, soon after construction, 1938.
The pool today… still in use!
We gathered with Mom’s brother and his wife, and some cousins. The small town they live in has one main eating establishment, a fast-food hamburger place. But they had wonderful hand-dipped ice cream and shakes, so we enjoyed dessert around a big round table!
It was such a blessing to walk down memory lane. I hope all the family members we saw enjoyed the day as much as we did!
Hope you get to spend time with family reminiscing about the ‘old days’!
