This is the family room that almost wasn’t…
decorated for the holidays, that is!
Ever since we started keeping our little grandson, we’ve tried to be extra aware of not leaving too much pretty stuff within his reach! But the little guy is growing so fast, he’s now able reach things on the kitchen counters! Yikes!!
So I approached this year’s Christmas family room with him in mind. I really can hardly wait for Christmas… it is just so magical when there are little ones around!
And I’m so happy to be sharing this year’s holiday family room with you as part of the ‘All Through the House’ Christmas Tour! Read on…
Welcome to the
All Through the House Christmas Tour
hosted by Town and Country Living and The Everyday Home.
Each day will feature a different space in the home. Today, I’m inviting you into our Christmas Family Room!
As I was saying, I kept most of the detail way up high – on the mantel. The mantel holds several items that are sentimental to me, including a cola bottle crate that belonged to my grandparents. You can read more about the mantel in THIS POST.
If you hang out here often, you might know that I am crazy about neutrals. But something gave me a hankerin’ for more color this year, especially red.
We put our tree in a galvanized bucket for the first time this year, too. I don’t think E would bother the tree (at least I’m hoping he won’t), but it just feels and looks more stable in the bucket… plus I like it! While I’m also hoping he won’t play with the ornaments, I made sure to hang the breakables up higher, and plastic and resin ones down lower!
And we got a new tree this year! I fell in love with this frosted tree. The one we had years prior was so huge. It came in 4 sections, and was a bear to assemble and check lights on! We were able to put this one in our favorite spot and leave both chairs in front of the window.
I did focus mainly on red and white for the ornaments. This tree is so beautiful even without ornaments that I didn’t go overboard by loading it up with them. And returning to my country roots, I chose a red and white gingham ribbon to wind through the branches.
