Have you ever missed so many days of excercising that it seemed pointless to pick it back up again? Or spent so many Sundays laying out of church that it’s hard to go back?
Or maybe you went on a chocolate or ice cream binge, turning your back on your New Year’s resolution to lose weight?
Finding Home… and a Dining Room Makeover
That’s where I am with my blog. It’s been so long since I’ve posted on a regular basis, that it’s hard to pick it back up again. The demands on my time seem so huge right now. I am torn between caring for family members, keeping my own sanity, and blogging the way I want to.
Blogging is something my heart sincerely longs to do – I’ve learned so much and worked so hard to carve a small niche in blogland! I feel at home on my blog. It is truly cathartic for me to write and share what is near to my heart. Even when demand for my time comes from all sides, there is still a drive within me to make the world a better place through my little corner of the internet.
Maybe I need a fresh start with my blog… sort of like my dining room got right as the holidays kicked off!
So, if you’ll bear with me, I’m going to keep going! Keep writing and baring my heart and soul, along with sharing the small improvements that we make around here. Deal? Deal!!
Before Christmas I got it in my head that it was time for a dining room makeover. We have been in this house for 6 years, and I had grown tired of the dark color of the room. Our house seems surrounded by porches, and while that’s fun, those porch roofs don’t let in a lot of light. I was craving more light! Here’s a before shot of the room:
Hmmm. Not too bad, but the dark color had me feeling claustrophobic. Plus, I’m one who loves and craves change.
And the window treatments were here when we moved in. I had always planned to update them, but just sort of lived with them for a few years!
When I make up my mind about something I am ready to go! I began the process of prepping the walls to paint, knowing that this room would need a coat of primer to get it done. In the midst of this, my sweet daddy dropped by one day and said, ‘Would you like me to call my painter-buddy and see if he would come do this for you?’
To which I said, ‘Aw… that’s sweet of you, but no… I think I’ve got it.’ Which proved to be a challenge for him, and before I knew it, he had his buddy on the phone offering to come take a look!
The rest is history!
And that’s how my dining room AND FOYER got a fresh coat of paint in – like a day and a half (it would’ve taken me at least a week in between keeping babies, etc.)! If I could have gotten the sitting room emptied soon enough (you can see it in the background), I’d have had him paint that room too!
Y’all. Can I just tell you that I am IN LOVE with my dining room makeover?! It is the most ethereal, relaxing shade of gray – Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams. (I wasn’t paid for this post… I just like it THAT much!) It looks great against the white trim and has enough color in it to be a great backdrop to the wooden furniture. I also switched out the mirror that had hung over the sitting room sofa with the oil painting that had been over the buffet.
And I got new curtains! I was in a hurry to finish the room, as I was host to a ladies lunch during the holidays. So they are a bit wrinkled in these shots… I’ll have to steam them. They are Faux Dupioni Silk Curtains in Storm Grey.
And the curtain rod and hardware? They’re the same! I simply spray painted the rods, brackets and rings with an oil rubbed bronze color spray paint and they turned out great!
They were an orangey-brown – sort of a tortoise-type finish before. It was a pretty finish, but totally wrong for gray walls and darker gray curtains!
So, what do you think of the dining room makeover? Let me know how you like it!
Well, that’s all I’ve got today! But I’ll be back… I promise!
I’m sharing this post at Metamorphosis Monday!
