Haven…
- harbor, port
- a place of safety : refuge
- a place offering favorable opportunities or conditions
This is Webster’s definition of the word Haven. Most of us think of our home as a haven. And we should. Our home is a harbor… a place to ‘land’, and should be a refuge from the world, definitely a place of safety. It should also provide opportunities and favorable conditions under which to grow and develop. While especially true for children, this ought to apply to adults as well. Home is a place where we can be comfortable and free to dream! Home is a place to nurture and enjoy family. (I love the Norman Rockwell-esque picture of our family below!)
And that brings me to the reason I started this post with a definition. An event is coming up that I am so excited to tell you about! When this blog launched less than two months ago, I started hearing about this awesome conference coming up. It’s called the Haven Conference, and it’s geared toward bloggers and do-it-yourselfers (DIYers). Knowing that tickets had gone on sale in January and had quickly sold out, I didn’t really see much chance of going. So I resigned myself to try to attend next year. But the deeper I got into blogging and the more I learned, the more I realized I needed to learn! And the more I began longing to go to Haven with all my heart!
As I started to feel that I should at least try to go, a friend directed me to the Haven facebook page. It was there that I began to see a glimmer of hope! Some people weren’t able to attend after all, and were selling their tickets. So, I did what I should do before any decision I make… I prayed about it! Specifically, that if God meant for me to go, He would make a way. Well, I had about three offers of tickets, and 3 room offers as well! The genuine hospitality expressed to me and others on the Haven Conference facebook page has heightened my anticipation and eased my fears of diving into a world that I know very little about! (Thanks, Haven Mavens!)
The fact that I’m going to the Haven Conference has already changed my life! I’m connecting with other bloggers, many of whom are ‘super-stars’ of the blogging world!! Before I signed up for the conference, I was not the least bit interested in Tweeting (I admit it) and had been known to say that ‘the birds will just have to chirp without me’! But, guess what I’ve done?? Gotten myself a Twitter account. Still not quite sure what to do with it, but I’ve got one!! And ‘following’ some folks on Instagram. And Pinterest, and StumbleUpon. By george, I can almost speak the lingo! This is one linked-up Granny!
Well, that’s my exciting news! Can’t wait to share with you what I learn!!
