My photos are edited using PicMonkey online. It is a free editing software program, but you can upgrade for a small fee and have access to all the tools. This is a great option for those who don’t have a big-box software program for photo editing (like me!).
Today, I will show you how to make a {collage} graphic for use in most any application: flyers, notecards, scrapbooking, web or blog design… pretty much anything!
This graphic begins by selecting ‘collage’ at the start page.
Load the photo(s) that you want to use. Click ‘open’ and load any photo you have on your computer.
Now you can begin to edit. Insert any photo into the collage. You can resize the collage and any of its elements. When you scroll over your inserted photo, you will see an edit button. Click on this and it will take you to a window. Click ‘Open image in Editor’ and you can edit the individual picture, and then go right back to the collage. For instance, below, I have elected to ‘frame’ the image with a torn edge…
When you are satisfied with your photo and the white space in the collage, click Edit at the top menu. It will tell you to make sure of this step, as once you go to edit, you cannot make changes to your photo(s).
Now, you are ready to have some more fun! You can add overlays (click on the butterfly in the left sidebar menu) and text to your image! Here, I will add a banner and make it green…
More overlays of flowers at the bottom (they will insert as black, but you can select any color in the Overlay tool box)…
Add text, and chose any font…
Keep playing with it until you strike a balance. A good rule of thumb about fonts is:
- If you use a script, say… in the title, then make sure you use a plain font elsewhere.
- Mix up serifs and non-serifs.
- Don’t use too many different fonts… 3 is about the max.
- Don’t be afraid to layer text over an overlay (a banner, for instance).
This is the end result!
I hope you find this tutorial useful, particularly if you’re a blogger! In the coming posts, I will show you how to make buttons, facebook cover photos, and watermarked photos!
Have a blessed day!
