One of my favorite places is featured in Southern Living magazine! It is the lake house belonging to my brother-in-law, Danny, and it is one of the most stylishly tranquil and serene settings you can imagine. Located on Smith Lake in Alabama, the house is situated on a point and appears to be surrounded by water.
The interiors were designed by my good friend, Richard, of Richard Tubb Interiors in Birmingham. I hope you will enjoy these photos today, and just imagine yourself in this relaxing spot. And be sure to get your hands on the June 2013 issue of Southern Living and enjoy ‘Room with a View‘ on page 100! And don’t miss this great slide show of the home at SL’s website! Their photos are a must see!!
Richard has done a fabulous job designing this relaxing lake house. The twin sofas in the great room are very versatile and can be arranged several ways in the very large, open room. This room runs the length of the house, and is surrounded by windows on 3 sides. The view below is one end, while the open kitchen (see kitchen photo HERE) is located on the opposite end and is the only full wall in the space.
When the property was purchased, it included a small house, which my friend renovated early on. And a new addition was attached on the lake side of the exiting house, creating a breezeway between the 2 structures:
Underneath the home, which is supported by 7 rough-hewn log beams anchored into the bedrock, is an outdoor living area just steps away from the water and boat dock. My brother-in-law even named the house ‘7 Sticks’! The house is truly built around these 7 monstrous logs:
Out on the dock is where lots of fun happens. Even the boat house has an ingenious design, providing shelter for the boat and a built-in sun deck. Swimming, boating and sunning are on the itinerary each visit!
This is a fabulous place to enjoy nature and summertime. Don’t forget to check out the Southern Living webpage for their feature of this awesome lake house!
And please share with me your special place…
I look forward to hearing from you!
