I’ve been wanting to update this little table for a while. It’s cute, but never really did much for the little spot where I put it. Here’s the before of my little table:
And, just to show you how real I am… here’s what’s happening just to the left of the table, in the sitting room! Yes, when I did this side table makeover, there was a Christmas decoration explosion in the house!!
But – I digress! Back to the side table makeover:
This post is brought to you by Plaid Crafts and Blueprint Social. All opinions shared are my own.
Luckily, I was asked to try PLAID’s new Ultra Matte Home Decor Chalk finish paint! You’re probably familiar with PLAID products, and may not know it! They make Mod Podge and Folk Art paints, including the new Folk Art Home Decor Chalks and Waxes. They sent some samples to me, one of which was the chalky finish paint in Sheepskin, which is a lovely soft white (hence the name, right?), as well as a bottle of the Home Decor Clear Wax.
So, I went to work! As you may know, chalk-finish paints require very little prep work. Just make sure the surface is clean and you’re good to go! The PLAID website even offers great tips and tutorials on how to paint with this type of paint. I started with the legs, and turned the table on its end, so I could do the top last.
I gave it a couple of light coats, although I think one would have been enough. I waited about 2-3 hours and came back and sanded with a fairly fine sand paper to distress a bit. I wanted some of the blue base coat to show through.
After sanding and wiping down thoroughly to remove any dust, I followed the package directions and waited several hours before applying a thin coat of the wax with a brush. Then I waited 24 hours to use a soft cloth to buff to a silky smooth finish.
And here’s the after – I think it looks much more at home in the foyer than it did before!
Oddly, I think the white paint gives it weight and helps anchor the foyer.
I was very pleased with the performance of this chalk finish paint. And you can do so much more with it tahn just give tired furniture pieces new life. Just click HERE to see lots of great ideas for using Plaid’s newest products!
Thanks for joining me here today, and a BIG thanks to PLAID for giving me the nudge I needed to redo this side table!
Toodle-Loo!
