It's the most wonderful time of the year! And I've got the most wonderful table to share, especially if blue and white is your jam, like it is mine. I'm all about thinking outside the box and I love the idea of creating a blue and white Christmas table. It even coordinates with the blue and white themed tree in our foyer! My love affair with blue and white received an added dimension a few ... Read More about Blue and White Christmas Table
{Sondra Lyn at} Home Tour – Family Room
Good Morning, Amazing Readers!
Well, I guess it’s time for a home tour! They tell me that this is one integral element to writing one’s own decorating blog, so it’s time for me to take the plunge. Please bear in mind that, like most of you, my home is a work in progress, and there are many things I still want to do!!
We moved into this house about 3 years ago, and it is probably the closest to my dream home that I will ever see. And it is good. It was a long road getting here, but we enjoy it very much. Is it perfect? No. Is it home? YES!! We are blessed.
I will start with the room where we spend the most time, the gathering room (that’s what the floor plan called it… I just call it the family room!) This is where we hang out, watch TV, play with our grandbaby and entertain.
The Hickory Chair ‘Sutton’ sofa sits against a half wall that separates the Family Room from the Morning Room (aka, breakfast room). And two arm chairs by Sherrill Furniture pair up in front of the triple window. I love color, but prefer neutral fabrics on my furniture so that I can add color here and there, and change when I want {I thrive on change!}. The fabric on the chairs is called ‘Dundee/Natural’ and it’s a great linen-y texture.
Notice the weird-looking thing leaning against the wall behind the chair? My husband is a pilot and he found and bought this propeller! It’s his contribution to our dΓ©cor! π
The coffee table is another of those pieces that I just had to give new life to and continue to use when we moved in. As in the case of our breakfast table, there were just too many other things we needed to purchase. It was the old oak one that we had used for years… I just painted it black and distressed it! I love my blue pottery. It wasn’t expensive, but it makes me happy!! And I also love spheres, so I use them a lot. Here you see a grapevine ball, some greenery balls and some ornate wooden ones. Plus some good reading material… gotta have that!
One of my favorite pieces is our accent ottoman! We ordered it the same time we got the chairs, and could have matched it. But I really wanted a mismatched look. And when our little yorkie-grandpup is over, it’s her ‘step-stool’ to get up into our laps!
This next photo is of my least favorite part of the room. We really need some kind of entertainment piece, but this is what we have for now. I do love the chair to the left, though. It was my dad’s for years (and previously covered in a floral chintz). He gave it to me, and I had it covered in a mushroom-color weave. Now I love it… and he threatened to take it back (he was just kidding – I think)!
And finally, this is the fireplace. You may recognize it from this previous post! It’s in the corner, which can sometimes be tricky, but it works pretty well. It does limit the ways that we can rearrange the room, however.
Well, that wraps up the home tour for today! Do you like to use neutrals or do you prefer using colorful fabrics on your furniture pieces?
Next up: the Guest Room!
Have a super day!!

Sondra I love reading your blog and seeing all the beautiful things you do.
Oh, Frances… you are so kind! I truly love what I do, and I hope it shows. Thanks for reading! π
Congrats Sondra! I break out in hives when I think about the home tour on my blog or lack thereof one day one day!
Thanks, Brandie! Yes, my hives are diminishing… slowly!! It’s hard not to compare one’s self, blog or home with all the super star blogs out there. So, yeah, it’s pretty intimidating! You don’t know how much I appreciate your encouragement!!
I love your family room! It looks so nice and “put together.” My house is nowhere near ready for a home tour post…but I’ve only been there for a few months, so I guess I get a pass! π
Thank you, Brooke! Ah, but that’s the beauty of the blog… I only let you see the parts that are presentable!! If you could see my office you’d never read my blog again! Ha! π I’ve photographed it the way it is now so that when I do the makeover in there you can see how it really was!
What a beautiful space! I love spheres, too — and I love how you combined different types together!
Katie, thanks so much!! Yeah, spheres are so fun, and a very pleasing shape. Thanks for reading!
Very nice! I love that your husband bought a propeller! What a cool way to represent his passion in the room.
Erin, thanks for reading! You’re right… I never thought of it that way!! We really need to find a better way to display it other than leaning it up against the wall! π
I love, love, love that grey chair!!!! So nice! Your living room is so warm and inviting!
Thank you, Allyson! Come by anytime!! π
It’s beautiful Sondra! I can’t wait to see the rest of the house. π
You’ve inspired me to spruce up my home tour page this morning … haha! Anything to procrastinate my to do list!
Have a great weekend!
xo, Laura
Thanks, Laura! My to-do list is pretty long, too! My dining room (where I made and shot the burlap pumpkin) looks like a bomb went off! π
That chair of your dad’s is my favorite thing – I love the color! Thanks for letting us see your home! I know what you mean about something to hide the TV. I need to figure out something for that purpose, too!
Thank you so much, Kristen! Yeah, I know I will always treasure that chair… Hope you’ll visit again! (I’m dropping in on you today!)
Your room is lovey – any source info for the chairs? Thanks!
Yes, Nicole. The chairs are by Sherrill Furniture. Shown skirted here, but available without a skirt and in a huge selection of fabrics http://www.sherrillfurniture.com/catalog_detail.php?id=449.
Thanks for reading!!
