Ah… Summer’s here at last! Time to freshen up the decor with a summer mantel and enjoy the relaxed, long days of summer!!
My family attended a wedding recently that featured turquoise and yellow, and it had me crushing on those colors big time! So I decided to bring them into our house and put them on our summer mantel!
As you know if you spend much time with me, I do love neutrals!
But sometimes I get a hankerin’ for color! This is one of those times!!
And I’m almost feelin’ a little bit country too! I KNOW… what’s up with that?
The foundation for this mantel is a table runner that I ‘aged’ by dyeing it with tea. It may look white here, but it was bright white before I aged it in the tea bath!
While I tried to decorate our mantel this time without using the window, I just couldn’t do it! Summer? Needed the window! So it is propped up on a metal planter that was my mom’s… sort of like a window box filled with daisies. Over the window hangs my Seed Packet Wreath (tutorial coming soon!).
To the left of the window is another item that was my mother’s: a washboard. I LOVE this washboard… even the message that’s on it is appropriate for this summer mantel! It says ‘SUNNYLAND’. Isn’t that great?? And how fun are the magnets pinning the seed packet to the board? They’ve been in our household for years… since I used to have lots of them on the frig! The vintage Ball mason jars were also my mother’s. They have their original zinc lids!
To the right of the window is a grouping of other objects, some with sentimental value. The dutch ‘wooden’ shoe is actually ceramic and given to our family by a friend who is a native of Belgium. The urn rests atop two books: one is a cookbook by Julia Child and the other is an antique book by Gene Autry! I just thought the tin @ symbol was cute and I already had the sunflower canvas.
I hope you like our summer mantel this year!
Have you brought color into your home for summer? Here’s to a colorful weekend!
